Title: May 30, 2009 - San Juan Islands Bottom Fishing
Post by: Nick on July 22, 2009, 10:52:34 PM
36 Ling Cod, multiple rock fish, small lingcod (threw back), and a greenling.
Sunny

We went out targeting Lingcod in the San Juan Islands and came home with a nice keeper! My buddy had been out the week prior and brought home a 36 Lingcode so now it was my turn.

We fished around Lummi Island near the rocks in 80-200 feet of water. We had three people fishing and between the three of us we caught 10 or more fish. We were using 8-10 ounce ball sinkers on a clip swivel with a 2-3 foot leader tied directly to the swivel. We then just put a chunk of herring on pre-tied mooching hooks and dropped it to the bottom. We targeted spots with heavy current and rocky bottoms especially along ridges and drop-offs.

All in all we caught quite a few rockfish, some greenling, two lingcod (one 19"er that we released and one 36"er that we kept).

Made some great beer batter fish and chips!
