Good to hear from you, Stanley.  Glad u are ok.  FYI your phone goes straight to voicemail, and it says the mailbox is full?  What’s the deal, are you blocking my calls?

DJ- the best tip I can offer is hold out and save your time for when there’s actually a decent number of fish coming thru.  I wouldn’t even consider trying it before July.  The later the better

DJ- you dont need anyone to show you the vedder.  its hands down the easiest place to just drive around and fish there is.  a road parallels the whole 15 miles of fishable water.  places to park all over the place, and foot trails on the banks every which way.  locals are friendly but goofy.  if you live in kendall its a 40 minute drive.

Figured I would brighten this place up with a fresh update about our beloved Stanley.  He and I still do our laps around Lake Padden once in a while, but the frequency isn't what it was.  You see... Stanley has had a rough go lately.  It all started when Old Country Buffet in the Bellis Fair mall closed.  He called it "the office", and all the regulars knew him.  There was a 2 hour maximum for paying guests, but Stanley was often granted an indefinite extension being he was such a character and just loved their atmosphere, making people laugh, and especially their gravy.  Well, once the "cunt buff" was no longer, he still relied heavily on his job and status at Boxx Farms as resident comedian, and head of picking operations.  It definitely kept him together through some troubling times.  But this fall, things took a turn for the worse.  Stanley was accused of sexual misconduct, he was accused of picking a woman's berries without her permission, and in this social climate of guilty-until-proven-innocent the HR department had their hands tied and were forced to let him go.   In his defense, Stanley is a good guy, and i think the jokes he often made using the Boxx name were clever and within reason.  However, Anita didn't feel the same apparently.  Anita Boxx initially clammed up, but later spouted out that she had it up to here with him.  Anyway, old Stanley is committed to turning the page and getting back into baking, and has recently taken his health seriously.  He's weaning himself off gravy, and says he's gonna be down to 250 pounds by this time next year.  I wish him the best.

the kendall creek facility hasnt released coho smolts in many years.  the unclipped ones that show up there just come in on the high water like fish should.  they release them back into the river.

Same as last years up there, except now are allowed 2 springs a day.  Still a 4 fish limit though (2 springs and 2 cohos, or 4 cohos).  Release wild cohos as usual

Yes, if by "years" you meant "minutes" and by "fished" you meant drank whiskey.

If you want to make a difference, steal one of those nets next time.  Nobody else is going to do it.  I saw one similar to the photos about 10 years ago... except in was February and the dead rotten fish were wild steelhead

The nooksack: a beautiful, pristine, free-flowing river in the northern puget sound.  Many steps have been taken over the years to protect its integrity.  It has a long and storied history of traditional ceremonial and sustistence fishing by the locals and most of the river is now under very strict rules as the fish numbers have dropped sharply for unknown reasons.  Almost the entire river is currently a sanctuary of protection to preserve the dwindling salmon and steelhead runs. They just have to get through the nearly unrestricted, no limits Wild West style commercial fisherman who block off the  the tiny portion of the river that connects it to the ocean.

Fishing Reports / Re: Baker lake.in late August?
« on: July 07, 2017, 10:32:53 PM »
I haven't fished it quite that late, but can still give some reasonably good advice.  The fish will almost all be in the "upper" end of the lake, and will be starting to stage up around the mouths of the creeks.  Not in the creeks, not in shallow water even, but off the edges of the cooler creek water that they should have found to be the place to be.  Similar gear as earlier should work, and you will have much less of those douchey macho fish counters to contend with.  Good luck.
