Favorite ways to cook salmon/steelhead
« on: December 05, 2011, 10:44:32 AM »
Let's hear them.
Mine would be to sprinkle some lemon pepper seasoning on and cook them on the grill with some baked potatos and maybe bread.
What is yours?

I like my salmon light on the seasoning.  I usually grill mine in a foil pouch with salt, pepper, a few chunks of butter, and topped with lemon slices.

Lemon Pepper is good.

My wife like to cook them on cedar planks with brown sugar

I have never tried cooking salmon on a plank before, a couple cook books I have suggest trying that. Is a better taste when the salmon is cooked on a cedar plank than on a grill?

Lots of people say it is.  It has been a while seen I have had it any other way, so I don't remember the difference.

Yeah, I have 50+ salmon in our freezer from just this year so we been trying different ways out but my fav is still the lemon pepper or I think soy sauce or something like is pretty good too, soy sauce works on pheasant and deer, too.

well i hope your freezer doesnt get audited by the game warden with that much meat, its not legal.  no reason for such a stockpile.  hope you arent killing steelhead, the local hatcheries need them more than you do

are there possession limits for freshwater, or is it only saltwater?  thought they were the same... could be wrong.  regardless, thats a LOT of salmon

Possession limit are for when you are fishing, like if you take a multi day fishing trip. Not for what you have at home. Show me a RCW that say I must eat my catch before I can go fishing again.

What species? If they're pinks, I'd suggest smoking it all up and vacuum sealing it before they lose their "freshness".
As for bonking brats, just keep on keepin on. Removing non-native fish from the system is probably the single best thing a guy could do to help preserve what we have left. The wild ones will thank you for it.

i was wrong about the meaning of possession limit i guess.  anyway, local hatcheries are really struggling to get their steelhead back, so if you dont need the meat than let them go.  more than likely somebody else will catch and kill that fish, but it might make it in, and help keep our rivers open.  i dont see many people releasing hatchery steelhead though, and dont realistically expect it to happen

I have caught 1 pink, 1 chum, 2 king jacks, 3 coho jacks, and 22 adult silvers, also 3 hatchery steelhead. 10 are native salmon and the rest are hatchery. That is just me, I do not know how many my dad and mom have. This was a fun year!
You had me worried there for a second gary, I knew this was not illegal but perhaps I did not read the regs right or something, haha. ::)

No offense Gary, but why in the world would you release a hatchery steelhead?
