Ditto
I agree, but it always seems that the rec fisher persons are the ones who have to take the toll/brunt end of things. When it seems we are the least of the problem.  Why!? lets stop the farming, logging, water diversions, ladders, pollution, runoff for awhile. Besides the fact the we as a group are pumping $$ into the the economy, not raping the ecology.  :'(
Wow! that felt good to get off my chest.

I'm probably as sad and/or angry as anyone.  It truly feels like I'm mourning the loss of a friend.  The state doesn't have a clue how many fish are in the river.  I'm not saying there are or aren't enough fish to justify a fishery but I do know that the state doesn't know.  In that sense, I suppose they are taking a conservative approach that should benefit the fish.  The downside is that those of us that care about the river and the fish won't be there to see what is happening.

I personally don't think that sportfishermen represent much of the problem/threat to the remaining steelhead.  That being said, it is still common to see people bonk the wild fish or completely mistreat them.  An example would be the 2 guys in the green metal boat in front of the hatchery on Saturday.  They netted the fish, had it IN the boat for about a minute before tossing it several feet in the air back into the water.   :(

Guess if people read the rules and abided by them, we wouldn't have more rules made up to protect fish. LIke leave fish in the water to release them. And nets do remove slim from a/any fishes skin. Which opens the skin to bacteria, which I've read eventually/actually drowns the a fish through water absorption.
