2009. Skagit River - Humpies
« on: August 19, 2009, 09:50:15 PM »
Tried plunking today for pinks on the Skagit River at Youngs bar. Only managed one humpy between the three of us and didn't see anyone else catching any. Not very many on the river today as the fishing has slowed down a bit. Seems like there were a lot more fish moving up river on Sunday than today...
We plunked with 3oz weights on dropper leaders from three way swivels with large firetiger, pink, and pink firetiger pattern spin-n-glows and sand shrimp. The fish caught was on the rig using the chartreuse firetiger spin-n-glow.

Fished the Skagit for Humpies on Monday evening 8/31/09. Saw lots of people catching them using sandshrimp and spoons. The spoon of choice seems to be small pink and white or pink and silver dick nites fished behind a small dropper or inline weight.
I was fly fishing and unfortunately didn't catch any. Going to take the gear down there later this week and give it another shot.

The water level is down a bit and has a murky look to it from the melt coming down from the mountains. Visibility is fair.
