I'd try a cooler, salt water, and an aquarium pump. And when that fails and you waste all your crab, I'd clean and  freeze them next time.

If you are close to the water we always used to put them in a bucket with holes in it and tie it some where below low water or to the dock. Or the clean and freeze idea works to like mrm said.

I would sell them if it werelegal, but it ain't legal...   More importantly, crabs that I catch are me, family, and friends...  Not so much for famiy and friends though...  thanks canned oiler...  Sometimes it is hard to eat five crabs at once...  I hae some in the freezer already...

Are there days that the commercial crabbers do not SET THERE POTS?

You could always only harvest what you can eat. Just because you catch a limit doesn't mean you have to bring them all home. No pressure, no waste.

I can eat way more than I can legally harvest. Do the rules apply?

i go by alaska rules, i only kill as many large hardshell males as i catch.  later, eat as many halves as i can (with coronas, of course).  the crab farts get so hot that they occasionally will burn holes in my shorts.  that being said, this circumstance happened to me exactly 0 times this year.  never have done so bad in a season.  how did you all do?

Only got out a couple times, but got a couple one time and big limits the next, both times S. Bham bay.

We did pretty well this year.  Between the B'ham Bay mud pit and the northern portion of MA7 I think we put away 70+ dungees.  We always take home our limits if we get them.  The ones that don't get eaten right away get shucked and put in the freezer.

A little tip...

If you have a vacuum sealer, partially freeze your shucked crab meat, then vacuum seal it.  We've done this for the last couple years and it doesn't get mushy like previously frozen crab can get.  It works great for crab/shrimp alfredo, crab dip, or "crab cobbler."  ;)
