i went out for deer, saw 7 does in 2 different fields on my way to the way to area i hunt but none once i started hunting, but heavy rain cut my hunt short

Don't quit hunting blacktails just because it's raining!  Wind and rain get the deer up and moving.  I don't think they like all the noise from the wind in the woods so they move a lot more.  It's best when it's raining and just a slight wind.  I almost always see lots of deer when it's raining.  Especially check around the edges of clearcuts at that time.

There's another message board with a thread talking about just this.  General consensus is, that guys see/take more deer when it's raining.

I've always wanted to go shoot some birds but I'm pretty inexperienced. Is there anywhere to go out where you don't have to have a dog.

A lot of the Quality Hunt sites are sheet water sites where a dog wouldn't be necessary.  Careful when you're wading though!
