Several small Rainbow Trout.

Sam and I drove up up to Clearwater creek off Mosquito lake rd today. Very beautiful small mountain stream that runs through large boulders and creates nice pools of water. The creek was running a little high today so that fishing wasn't very good. We only caught a few small rainbow trout. We were fly fishing and used some dry flies and wets. We fished Elk Hair Caddis and Humpy patterns for dry flies and leech patterns and woolley buggers for wets. We hiked downstream to where it flows into the Middle Fork Nooksack river. There is some nice water there but we didn't catch any fish. We plan to go back once the water level goes down a bit to try again. Even though we didn't catch very many fish the hike was very nice.

To get to Clearwater creek turn on Mosquito lake Rd. from Highway 542 (Mt. Baker hwy) and drive down Mosquito lake rd. After a few minutes you will cross a small bridge and come to a large gravel pit on the left. There is a road that goes above the gravel pit and about 4 miles up there is a bridge that crosses Clearwater Creek. We just parked at the bridge and hiked downstream.
