The Skagit river sockeye fishing season will run from June 16th through July 15th for the 2015 opener with the lower river from Hwy. 536 at Mt. Vernon (Memorial Hwy. Bridge) to mouth of Gilligan Creek open for retention. There is a daily limit of 3 fish per licensed angler. Remember, all regulations must be followed and licenses must be purchased to harvest sockeye in the river.

Popular techniques for sockeye fishing in the river are very similar to those used on odd years for pink or humpy salmon. Plunking #4 winged bobbers with sandshrimp seems to be the ticket for most anglers. An alternative is to use smaller size 6 corkies with shrimp in a bait loop or a small pink hootchie or bit of yarn works well too. Reds and pinks seem to be the colors of choice.
